On Ducati Testastretta 4V engines there is always pressure on the cams and if the cam belts are removed without holding the cam wheels the correct valve timing will be lost. This tool has been designed to precisely fit between the 2 cam shafts and hold them in place allowing for easy replacement of the cam belts.
The cam belts on Ducati’s need to be replaced every 15,000 miles and unfortunately this simple routine maintenance task is often overlooked with catastrophic results.
Installation tips:
First, lock the rear cylinder cams with this tool, then remove belt from the front cylinder followed by rear. Replace belt on rear cylinder followed by the front. Remove the cam lock tool and tension belts.
